More than 150 Girl Scouts from Milwaukee Public Schools participated in Girl Scouts of Wisconsin Southeast’s (GSWISE) Girls of Summer All-Star Day on July 26 at Helfaer Field at Miller Park.
Girls of Summer is a collaborative program with GSWISE, Brewers Community Foundation, and Milwaukee Public Schools’ Recreational Division. Since 2000, the program has been engaging girls who have completed grades 3-5 in a non-competitive softball league. For three weeks, the girls are taught to play softball at their local program site, as well as meeting twice a week at Wick Field. Once training is complete, they come together at Helfaer Field where teams play in a round-robin schedule. Girls have fun on the field while developing self-confidence, teamwork, leadership, and healthy living skills. Through the support of the Brewers Community Foundation, the girls participate at no cost to their families.
