Troop Camping

Girl Scouts of Wisconsin Southeast has seven camp properties that troops can rent for an overnight experience or day use. Girl Scout troops may rent facilities up to six months in advance. Depending on the time of the year we may be able to facilitate larger rentals (service areas or schools) earlier than six months, please call to check on this. Camp facilities are available for rental seven days a week, pending availability. All reservations are valid upon payment unless you are notified otherwise by council staff.

Availability by Time of Year

September - May
Camp Alice ChesterCamp Winding River, and Camp Silver Brook are only available for troop camping September-May due to council-sponsored camp in the summer.

Year-Round
Camp Pottawatomie HillsChinook Program CenterTrefoil Oaks Program Center are closed for several weeks each summer for council-sponsored day camp, but they are available for troop camping the rest of the summer. Fowler Troop House can also be reserved, but it is managed by Lakeland Service Area volunteers. 
 
All camps are closed during deer hunting season and during the council holiday break (December 19 - January 5)

Cancellations/Transfers

Rescheduling or transferring a booking is allowed one time if more than five weeks prior to the reservation date.

All cancellations need to be received in writing five weeks prior to the reservation date to receive a refund. Troops need to email registration@gswise.org to cancel a rental date.  All but $10.00 will be refunded. No refunds will be given if the cancelation is less than five weeks prior to the rental date. Requests to transfer dates within five weeks of the reservation will incur a $25 fee. 

GSWISE reserves the right to close a property if the weather is too severe or if there is major equipment failure. If the council closes a program facility, a full refund will be issued.

On-Site Activities and Equipment Rental

Girls are encouraged to take advantage of the wonderful outdoor activities that are offered at our camps for troops staying overnight.  Sports and games, outdoor skill kits, archery, canoeing, kayaking, swimming and snowshoeing are offered at our camps.

Equipment can be rented at the time you rent a site and is a part of the site rental form.   

Archery

Requires the presence of a certified archery instructor. A current certificate must be on file with Girl Scouts of Wisconsin Southeast prior to the rental date. Other requirements include:

• Equipment must be used at the designated archery area at each camp. Equipment is only available at Alice Chester Center, Camp Pottawatomie Hills, Camp Winding River, Chinook Program Center, Silver Brook Program Center and Trefoil Oaks Program Center.
• Girls must be Girl Scout Junior Level or above.
• Fee is $2 per person, payable at time of rental. Fee includes bows, arrows, arm/wristguards, targets and ground quivers.
• Troops must follow Archery Safety Activity Checkpoints.
 

Canoeing

Available only at Camp Alice Chester, Camp Pottawatomie Hills, and Camp Silverbrook.  Requires a lifeguard and an adult with canoe certification. A current certificate must be on file with Girl Scouts of Wisconsin Southeast prior to the rental date. Other requirements include:

  • Canoe events need to take place between June 1 and October 15.
  • Canoes are not available between Memorial and Labor Day at Camp Alice Chester and Camp Silver Brook.
  • Fee is $5 per canoe.  Fee includes PFDs, paddles, and throwbags.
  • Canoeing should not be planned when water temperature is less than 50 degrees.
  • Troops must follow Canoeing: Safety Activity Checkpoints.
Kayaking

Available only at Camp Silverbrook. Requires a lifeguard and an adult with kayak certification. A current certificate must be on file with Girl Scouts of Wisconsin Southeast prior to the rental date.  Other requirements include:

  • Kayak events need to take place between September 1 and October 15.
  • Fee is $5 per Kayak.  Fee includes PFDs, paddles, and throwbags.
  • Kayaking should not be planned when water temperature is less than 50 degrees.
  • Troops must follow Kayaking: Safety Activity Checkpoints.
Outdoor Skill Take Out Boxes

Is a self-directed activity and does not require any equipment rental. Kits are available for knot tying, knife safety, orienteering, and compass work, and geocaching.  Talk to the site manager about using the kits one week prior to your arrival. 

Snowshoeing

Is a self-directed activity. Talk to the site manager about using the snowshoes at least one week prior to your arrival.

Other requirements include:

  • Fee is $2 per person
  • At Chinook Program Center, snowshoes fit adult shoe sizes 6 and larger.
  • At Camp Silverbrook, showshoes are one size fits all.
  • Maximum: 25 pair at Chinook Program Center and 40 pair at Camp Silverbrook.
  • At least four inches of snow is required for rental.
  • Troops must follow Snowshoeing: Safety Activity Checkpoints.
Swimming

Available at Camp Alice Chester, Camp Pottawatomie Hills, and Camp Silver Brook. Requires at least one adult (18 years of age) lifeguard with current certification and a ratio of one lifeguard per 10 swimmers. Current certifications must be on file with Girl Scouts of Wisconsin Southeast prior to the rental date. Other requirements include:
• Swimming activities need to take place between June 1 and September 30.
• Waterfront is not available between Memorial and Labor Days at Camp Alice Chester or Camp Silverbrook.
• Fee is $10.00 per troop, payable at time of rental. Fee includes use of designated waterfront, backboard, and rescue equipment.
• Swimming should not be planned when water temperature is less than 60 degrees.
• Troops must follow Swimming: Safety Activity Checkpoints.
