Girl Scouts of Wisconsin Southeast Welcomes GE Healthcare Volunteers for Annual Day of Service
Nearly 100 Volunteers Join Local Council at Camp Silver Brook and Camp Alice Chester on May 3
MILWAUKEE – (May 1, 2023) – Girl Scouts of Wisconsin Southeast (GSWISE) is welcoming nearly 100 GE Healthcare employees to its outdoor camp properties on Wednesday, May 3 for their annual day of service. GE Healthcare employees will participate in various camp clean-up activities at two of GSWISE’s summer camp locations: Camp Silver Brook in West Bend and Camp Alice Chester in East Troy.
GSWISE staff will be leading GE Healthcare employees through a range of projects designed to prepare both properties for hosting thousands of Girl Scout campers during annual summer camps hosted between June and August. Projects include landscaping, brush removal, chopping firewood, cleaning camp cabins, and setting up the camp Trading Post store.
“GE Healthcare is a generous partner who models the importance of community service, leadership, and a deep appreciation of nature and the environment – all values and skills taught at our summer camps,” said Christy Brown, CEO of Girl Scouts of Wisconsin Southeast. “Their work on these cherished properties helps provide memorable experiences for girls to grow confidence and curiosity every summer.”
The upcoming annual day of service marks the 21st anniversary of GSWISE’s partnership with GE Healthcare, which began in 2002 with a staff volunteer day at Camp Winding River, eventually expanding into additional camp locations. Over the course of the partnership, more than 2,400 GE Healthcare employees have volunteered at GSWISE summer camp properties.
Hosted every summer between June and August for girls in grades K5-12, Girl Scout camp offers a great way to seek challenges, explore and adventure, learn new skills, and make new friends. GSWISE offers a variety of camp options, including day camps, day camps by community, and overnight camps, across five locations in East Troy, Waukesha, Oconomowoc, West Bend and Kenosha. Registration for Girl Scout camp is currently open, and financial assistance is available.
GSWISE will be welcoming GE Healthcare employees from 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. at both Camp Silver Brook and Camp Alice Chester. In the event of inclement weather, a rain date is scheduled for Wednesday, May 10 at both locations.
