WATCH ROBOTS COMPETE!
TWIST (Together, Women in STEM
Thrive) is an event hosted by FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) team
6421 WarriorBots from Muskego, Wisconsin. Founded in 1989, FIRST is a
global nonprofit organization that prepares young people for the
future through a suite of life-changing youth robotics programs that
build skills, confidence, and resilience. FRC is the high school level
of the program where teams of students are challenged to build
industrial-size robots to play a difficult field game in alliance with
other teams, while also fundraising to meet their goals, designing a
team "brand," and advancing respect and appreciation for
STEM within the local community. As of last year, only 25.7% of
participants in the program in the state of Wisconsin were girls, a
disparity that we are striving to improve through our event.
At its core, TWIST is a robotics competition with a twist, as
robots are driven completely by girls in exciting competition between
teams from across the Midwest. Through this event, we hope to
contribute to closing the gender gap in STEM and promoting inclusive
team cultures. We have over 30 teams registered from Wisconsin,
Illinois, and Minnesota and we are excited to impact hundreds of
aspiring female STEM students.
This event is completely
free to attend, but for groups attending we ask that you fill out the
following form for our records and so we can assign an appropriate
number of tour guides.
TWIST Robotics Competition is held at Muskego High School. This Community Event Provider requires an adult register and attend this event with their Girl Scout.
