"Be prepared" is the Girl Scout motto - and that applies to volunteers! Our volunteer training can prepare you for your Girl Scout role.

We know that when you have the knowledge and skills you need to succeed in your role, you will thrive. For troop volunteers, training can help create a troop environment where your Girl Scouts thrive, too. Being prepared also ensures that we are keeping our members and their families safe in a variety of ways.

Volunteer training is primarily available through gsLearn, Girl Scouts' official online and on-demand training platform. Complete courses when it works best for you!

How to Access gsLearn:

Log into myGS.
Navigate to the left menu bar and locate "gsLearn" from the menu.
View your council-assigned training and status per course, search the content library by keywords or content type, and select one of your learning paths and complete the modules!

Core Trainings

The gsLearn system allows registered adult members to access a variety of trainings. These courses are available at any time and allow you to work at your own pace.

All registered volunteers require training to be prepared for a role with Girl Scouts. These courses are required to meet our safety and liability standards. They are all offered through gsLearn.

Every GSWISE volunteer who will interact with Girl Scouts in any way is required to sign the Volunteer Code of Conduct and Policies and Practices and complete the GSUSA Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention training.

497 Annual Courses for All Volunteers 2026-27

New Troop Leaders toggle arrow

This series of trainings is required for all new troop leaders. It will prepare you for your role as a troop leader, giving you all the information you'll need to create a safe, successful, and fun Girl Scout troop.

You only need to take the courses for the level of your troop.

Bridging Troop Leaders toggle arrow

These courses include information you'll need when your troop is bridging to the next level of Girl Scouting.

You only need to take the course for the level that your troop is bridging to.

Troop First Aider toggle arrow

A qualified first aider is required anytime your troop leaves its regular meeting space. Check gsLearn for details before clicking the link below.

497 First Aid & CPR/AED for Volunteers

Product Program toggle arrow

Training for Fall Product Program Managers and Cookie Captains is released just before each program starts.

If you want to build a fire... toggle arrow

At least one adult who will be present must complete this course before building a fire with the troop, whether outdoors or in a fireplace. This is required before you rent space at any GSWISE property.

497 Fire Safety & Outdoor Cooking

If you're going overnight... toggle arrow

Any volunteer who administers medication to a Girl Scout, based on written permission from their guardian, must have taken this course within the last year. This is required before you may rent space at any GSWISE property.

497 WI Medication Administration Principles

497 Annual Courses for All Volunteers 2026-27

These courses are required to be repeated by all Girl Scout volunteers every year between April 1 & September 30 for the upcoming membership year!
