Today, we’re sitting down with Annie “Zebra” Henkle, who shares some of her favorite memories and lessons learned at Girl Scout camp.
I enjoyed Girl Scout camp as a kid, but Camp Alice Chester gave me new job opportunities I didn’t have at other camps.
My first summer working at Camp Alice Chester, I was a trip leader. I gained more confidence in my ability to trip plan and help guide girls on adventure trips. One of my favorite memories is kayaking around the Apostle Islands. I was also the Adventure Director and Program Specialist at camp the summers after I went on trips.
Returning to different Girl Scout camps summer after summer made me decide to go back to college and get my master’s degree in counselor education.
Reflecting now, I can be myself at camp and wanted to be a role model for campers. Because of my experience at Alice Chester and the camps I’ve worked at, I have friends from around the state, country, and world too.
I honestly could go on and on about how camp makes me feel and how grateful I am for summers I spent at Camp Alice Chester.
