When Lila and her family moved to Whitefish Bay, she didn’t know anyone. Joining Troop 37834 as a Girl Scout Daisy provided an opportunity for Lila to make new friends. When she’s with her new friends, she enjoys eating snacks, making candles, and singing Girl Scout songs.
Lila was also excited to take part in her first Girl Scout Cookie season. She didn’t waste time implementing one of the five skills Girl Scouts learn when they sell cookies: goal setting. She initially started with a goal of selling 100 boxes of cookies. She hoped to earn an art kit and then a Disney trip as part of her rewards in the Girl Scout Cookie Program.
To achieve her goals, Lila was inspired by kids who have lemonade stands. She and her family set up a cookie stand in front of their house, and Lila paid attention to the details to attract attention. She insisted on lining up the cookie boxes in rainbow order so they looked nice. She also set them up higher so people could see them as they drove by.
Lila waved to passersby, even waving with a cookie mitten. She also had signs advertising her Girl Scout Cookie sale. She handed out cookie menus and took orders from customers’ windows, so they didn’t have to get out of their cars.
Lila’s efforts paid off quickly; she sold 100 boxes of Girl Scout Cookies in less than two hours. In the process, she learned another one of the skills Girl Scouts gain when selling cookies: people skills. Lila talked to people she hadn’t talked to before and met a lot of neighbors. During the sale, she had many repeat customers.
When the final tally came in, Lila sold 2,052 boxes of Girl Scout Cookies, landing her in the top ten of Girl Scouts of Wisconsin Southeast’s top 2024 cookie sellers. In addition to selling cookies, Lila donated several boxes of cookies to her community. "Lila also came up with the idea of passing along smiles to our crossing guards and delivery drivers with boxes of cookies as gifts,” her mother Jessica said. “It's nice to see her generosity in action.”
Jessica is thrilled to see Lila thrive in her Girl Scout troop and her cookie sales. “It’s been wonderful to see her come out strong,” she said. “When we moved here, she didn’t know anyone, and we’re grateful that Girl Scout Daisies has expanded her circle of friends. Not many people know about some recent medical struggles, which makes her success as a cookie entrepreneur all that much more special. We hope this is only the beginning of a long journey of strong friendships, empowerment, ingenuity, and perseverance for Lila and her fellow Girl Scouts.”
